BCA 2006 - Nottingham July 29 - 31

Well this is just an update I have from the BCA people. The next edition of the 17th International Cheerleading Champhionships will be again held at the Nottingham Arena on the weekend of July 29-31, 2006.

Of course, Team All Stars will be heading for it again! We are so pumped up after our debut, and for sure we are hungry for more glory! We would definetly want to win the cheerleading division this time around! I am hoping to see a few more teams from Malaysia to make their way there. Hey, I know it is an impossible dream but no harm trying right?! We proved it the first time, why not you do it the second time?

I heard that CHARM All-Stars are pulling things together and make their way there next year! We can't wait! The more the merrier. I'm also hoping teams like Shirtliff, Dynamitez and Xavier to open your eyes, and expand the horizon! Talk to your principal, get your parents together, and there you go...fly to UK!

I cannot describe how excited I was when we were at KLIA before departing to UK. The 12 hour journey was although very timid, but worthwhile! You have the MAS plane to yourself!

Anyways, Team All Stars are looking for committed and discipline peeps to join us for the 2006 season. Buzz our captain Nita (012-977 5246) or our Secretary John (012-267 1823) for details!

The fact that 13 of them were first-timer at the Nationals Cheer competition, SMK DJ's Dynamitez won the Champions trophy after 2 years playing brides-maid to Shirtliff! Good Job! Your highly explosive spirit finally earns credit!

Tahniah, and I'm proud of you girls! Kudos to your seniors too!

T-Hop Dance Masters Challenge 2005 - Final

T-HOP Dance Masters Challenge 2005

Battle on August 28, SUNDAY, 3pm

The competition began three weeks ago, with 26 dance group battling all out at the qualifying rounds.. Only 16 made it to the semifinals, and of which only 10 dance group will be vying for the RM2000 cash prize! The 2nd and 3rd place winner will each win RM1500 and RM1000 respectively. Remaining 7 finalist will receive RM200 worth of shopping voucher.

Amongst the group that has qualified are Fundemental Phunk (formerly known as Rastas), Rogue (finalist at SBU's Battle of the Dancers), EVO-I (finalist at T-HOP HipHop Dance), Element Crew and Mirage.

If you have nothing better to do on this particular Sunday, why don't you take the effort and drop by at T-HOP. Hangout for an hour or so, which I can assure you that all 10 teams will dazzle you with their eye catching outfits and routine!

I am rooting for Fundemnetal Phunk, Rogue and Mirage! Yay!

im suwen..well..i've been readin ur blog..ever since u posted it on the cheerleading msn group message board..ur blog is pretty interesting actually..hehe..well..im not a stalker or anything la..im just a fan of ya blog n im kinda a fan of cheerleading..soo..i hope this email doesnt really scare u anythin ..lol well...i have always been a fan of cheerleading..its great that cheerleading is slowing coming up.but sadly..i cant be a cheerleader..my school just recently called a coach to teach gymnastics n cheerleading..its great n all but i cant enter..im in form 5..only form 1 - form 4 student can enter..they are sorta preparing for cheer 2006 which mean we're ineligible i guess..so its kinda sad laa..i made some effort learning like toe touch n stuff by my own..its kinda fun la~!hehehehe..well..during sports day ..we use to have cheerleading but it was like those boring ones..cudn't have difficult stunts n all..teachers were being to "protective"..*sigh..teacher..LOL..so im pretty jealous lookin at all the pics n stuff n especially other schools man..wish i cud just be in it..hehehehehe

Pumping More Spirits in Subang!

The Subang Jaya cheerleading community has shine up brighter this year. Vulcanz, Cyrens and Zircon has inspired other schools joint their ranks too to make it a bigger affair. The inclusion of SMK USJ 13's Warriors and Hollaback team this year is good news. Although both teams ended not in the Top 15, I pretty hope next year they will improve their ranks. It would do great deal if they learn to correct techniques from their big sisters and brothers. My piece of advice, learn your basics rightfully first before attempting any difficult stunt. Good luck WARRIORS and HOLLABACK!

Cheerleader, 14, Dies After Stunt

Authorities are investigating the death of a 14-year-old Medford cheerleader who died Tuesday afternoon after performing a stunt at her cheer gym.

NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that Ashley Burns was practicing with other teens at the East Elite Cheer Gym in Tewksbury about 4:30 p.m. when she complained of abdominal pains and was taken to Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell, Mass., where she later died.

Burns was a petite girl, only 4 feet, 9 inches and 90 pounds. She was a "flyer," on the squad -- one of the girls who gets thrown up into the air during a routine. She was practicing a "double down" stunt with four other team mates. The routine requires the flyer to twice up in the air and then be caught. Her coach said Burns was caught in her teammate's arms and never hit the floor, but a short while later she began to complain of abdominal pains.

"If she impacted her abdominal area, a blunt injury could cause internal bleeding, and I would suspect it may be in that line of injury," Tewksbury Police Chief Richard Mackey said.

Burns was first treated at the East Elite gym and later transported to the hospital. Many of her teammates left the practice believing she was fine because she was alert and talkative when the ambulance arrived.

"Obviously our deepest sympathy is with the family right now. We are not going to make a further comment until we get further information, which needs to be available at a later date. The police department is investigating," gym co-owner Linda Bemis said.

An autopsy should determine the exact cause of death.

"We're being told that absolutely there were no trampolines involved. This was just, somebody landed wrong and sustained an injury," Medford Police Chief Alfred P. Donovan said.
Burns had cheered and competed for many years. She was on the student council in middle school and was to be an entering freshman at the vocational school in Medford this fall.

XAVIER, still hot to go?

Well it's high time to write about something else, then All Stars and the UK trip. My fellow blog fans might be vomitting blood by now. Huhuhu.

I was going through my email, deleting unwanted mails and came through an old email from XavierBabe_Maria which contains of many2 pictures of Xavier and CBN cheerleaders! The other sister team is known as Adele.

The name of the team derives from CBN's principal, Mr. Francis Xavier. Cool eh? Just like Adele, Shirtliff and Maclay. Anyways, their first debut was in 2000 which if not mistaken they finished fourth. Then came in 2001, where the new episode of the Egoya girls giving it all out that year. Having a promising line up, add 2 gymnast in it this Green team came 2nd, behind Shirtliff. What happened the next year? Well, just take this fan pyramid as your reference and you should know who took home the trophy!

So how HOT TO GO are they now? In 2003, the team was eager to defend the National title once again. Hey perhaps because of pressure the team performed below par. But coming out third was cool, especially with the Michael Jackson intro. I still remember the crowd going crazy.
2004, after 2 years the Mighty X was not seen in the Top 3 bracket and losing out to sister team Adele. And again this year, going down one rung to fifth.

Personally, I think Xavier is still the team to be watched every year despite the disappointing results lately. Hey, bringing in traditions perhaps could bring luck. When I heard Xavier was doing the Egoya cheer for this year after 2 years of absence I was like eclastic! Because I loved the Egoya cheer, and this year they made a minor change which was cool. Idea for next year, maybe include stunts for Egoya?

To advisors and coaches of Xavier and the CBN cheerleading team, I would advise that you should review the overall performance once again. Every minor mistake, and unwanted infractions could make many differences. My opinion, the stunting should have more transition instead of having one stunt at a time. Try to add more tumblings, instead of focusing on 1-2 person to do it.

Do you think Xavier is still hot to go? I still think they are!

New Squad Dance Division (Champion)

We send 8 girls to compete in the dance division. In this particular division, we had to compete with 2 other new teams from the UK namely X-Factor Upbeat and Extreme ELITE.

This routine is choreographer by Nadiha Mohammad (Diha).


We had Asmaradana as our intro, which I thought was really nice. Since we were the only team with an ethnic element, guess we manage to pull the crowd. Even the entrance was nicely choreographed, very professional gitu.



Diha also picked a segment of a song from the popular musical, Moulin Rouge. It was the only segment of the routine, which was my least favorite. But hey, she put in a lot of ripples and transitions. Cool! Then afterwards, they have a costume change. That is why the difference of costume colour, from white tops (the first pic) to the red fittings (next few pictures). After the costume change, that is when you see the team doing more aggresive moves! It starts with Missy Elliot's latest hits, Lose Control...then we had one cheer song which was a Hiphop song remixed. Then the ever popular Hollaback song...and we ended with a powerful BOOM! BOOM! song.

Good job Diha! And my hugs to Nita, Linda, Pu3, Maria, Jill, Sandra and Carmen!

Malaysians - Have you heard of Pee Wee?

Before my trip to UK, one of the most anticipated moment is to watch the *Pee Wee divisions.

*These cheerleaders are aged between 8-12yo!

As I entered the Arena on the first day, I saw some of them around the warming up area. I didn't really notice the excitement as first because I was more worried and paranoid with my stunting competition which was the first event on the first day!

Anyways, at lunch I decided to get out of my seat and grab lunch. Sandwhich was it. Then, I saw this tiny mini group of peeps working out their routine. Oh my gowd, there were cute! I grabbed my camera and took some shots while they were rehearsing.

I will add more Pee Wee pics online soon, but the one I have here is from the Goldstar team of UK. One of the most biggest, and greatest team around there!

Rangsit University champs again!

See there is no fluke of bringing them down last June for the clinic. Rangsit once again proved everyone that they are the best from the Siam land.

At the recent To Be The No.1 cheerleading competition, RSU team outclassed their openents with grace and great stunting! See the pictures, and you get what I mean.

VULCANZ Boys -From Zero to Hero

I don't know much of cheerleading happenings in the Subang area in the early years. It was always Shirtliff and Xavier, red and green fighting for the top.

But at 2004's edition , I personally saw the emergence of new teams giving the 2 most celebrated teams at that time a run of their money. The obvious case is Dynamitez, and the other one being Vulcanz.

I have met this enthusiast lot at the Cheer 2003 briefing. I read thier history which was really interesting. When they entered CHARM All-Stars, I guess it benefited the school team too. They progressed better everyday, just like what CHARM is responsible to monitor on the progress of cheerleading in Malaysia.

In one year period, the team came and send 2 teams to compete. The obvious other team was the all-Boys team. Something new in Malaysia, but not overseas. I was excited myself as this would be a history for everyone. I have seen a clip of all-Boys performing a routine, and it simply made me go ga-ga.

They made a good debut, although the routine wasn't as clean, but hey very inspiring! Came the 2005 edition, they were one of my favorites. And yes, these Vulcanz boys became heroes of the day. There were a few stunting trick that made their game at higher level. Perhaps the new captain for next year should watch out on the obvious mistake they always do for two years now. Then I can whisper to Dynamitez, should worry of these Subang boys threat!

To Chee Wei, good job for bringing up the cheerleading scene in the Subang area. I heard of the forming of Subang All-Stars which is definetly a great idea to uplift the standards here in Malaysia. Keep on moving, never stop!

Senior Co-Ed Intermediate Division (3rd Place)

The intro was a little different from usual. We stand in one straight line, all 13 of us. When music starts we had motions moving into 3 stunt group. See Diha and Jill going out doing show extensions, and Linda hidden behind getting ready for toss.

The cheer part, we had the crowd cheering M-A-S with us. It was awesome to have thousands of people cheering with you! Imagine you're at Stadium Putra, and the crowd follows you cheering. Naik bulu roma.... The supporters there were really sporting! I thought I was a celebrity for 2.5 minutes! Why M-A-S? You figure!

Our cheer finale, ending with 3 toe-touch craddle. Hmmm...

The dance. Nicely choreographed by our celebrated Nadiha Mohammad (Diha). If you watch us perform this dance next time, you know it is very different! Even the commentator Sean Paulsen said, "You have an awesome choreography! Great dance! Good job!"

After our dance, we had 3 basket toss pike. Then we transited to our finale pyramid.
Sorry, pyramid was not taken! Hehehe...

Team All Stars - History

A brief history of Team All Stars for your kind reference. Perhaps most of the cheerleaders knew about the existence of this bunch of after high-school cheerleaders from the exclusive team called CHARM All-Stars back in 2003. This team was founded by the popular Beverley Hon, the person behind the Cheer competitions organised by Youth2 and Clean & Clear. We assembled after a few cheer freaks (like me!) met her and discussed if we could have an all-star team of our own.

We met her since she was the right person at that moment. So we initially had members from Xavier, Shirtliff and Dynamitez coming together and create a history! At that time too, Beverley was also in the midst of setting up the Cheerleading Association and Registrar Malaysia (CHARM). Just at the right time, we formed CHARM All-Stars who made their debut at Cheer 2003. (only girls performing because the boys were not allowed to perform alongside the girls for some stewpeek issue!)

Since then, we enjoyed being an all star member. Being the first, we did our very best to set good examples and lead the way for other teams (especially those younger ones). But after awhile, a few senior members (myself included) thought that the team was not really moving ahead after 2 years. As we thought we were going better, instead it went worse. We finally made a decision to depart from CHARM and the all-star team and start a new team with a new management.

In November 2004, we discussed this issue and came up with Team All Stars. With the help of helpful adults (including parents, teachers and friends) we also teamed up to register the Malaysian Official Cheerleading Association (MOCHA) with the Registrar of Societies. MOCHA's application has been sent and received by the ROS officially in May 2005.

Many questioned, why set a new Association when there is another?
The reason we set up MOCHA was to widely promote this activity, and to make it acceptable at all levels. We knew then how CHARM works, but there were a few agendas that made us decide that having another Association would help cheerleading grow. MOCHA is run by cheerleaders and for cheerleaders.

As MOCHA is still in the midst in registering, we were told by ROS officials that we are not allowed to use MOCHA and hold activities especially when it involves in raising funds. That is why whenever you read, it is always Team All Stars and not MOCHA.

Our Progress:
After less then one year in progress, Team All Stars has achieved so much as to compared in our our days with our former team and management.

• Our first assignment was participating at the World AIDS Day - Youth Street Carnival where we send 2 teams to performed.
• Then, we made our first competition debut at the T-Hop Cheerleading Competition when our all-girl team won beating Dynamitez and Zircon.
• We made our a big step forward when we organised the Cheerleading Clinic with the Rangsit University cheerleaders. Our main objective was to allow our juniors to learn more new skills and to be at a competitive level. 8 high school teams participated in the clinic.
• At Cheer 2005, Team All Stars was indirectly involved with the competition too! Our members were coaches to various team including Xavier, Adele, Shirtliff, Maclay, Shewanaz, Zircon and Sellors.
• As everyone know by today, Team All Stars created cheerleading history by being the first Malaysian cheerleading team to compete at international competition and win honours for the country.

I believe this team will contribute a lot in the bid to advance cheerleading into a greater activity. We maybe pioneers, but those who are trailing behind us (the younger cheerleaders) are always welcome to join us to make it a greater episode!

Malaysian Movies featuring cheerleaders!

Wow...sape yang menyangka that one day, besides being an ordinary cheerleader cheering for your school you can be a movie star too?!

Well if you notice the promo preview of Gol & Gincu, you might notice a bit of cheerleading scene in it. That is CHARM All-Stars, featured in this movie produced by Reds Communication.

When I saw the preview on TV last week, I notice most of the members are from this 2 schools. The routine is nice and clean, which I think they could have done better in terms of presnetation. But I applaude for their spirit to promote this sport to the public. Good job!

Likesaid, Team All Stars pun pernah keluar wayang! The girls can be seen in a few cheerleading scene in a few movies yah! For example Gila Bola!, Cinta Fotokopi and Kuliah Cinta! Kite pun movie star! Hehehe...

We were the 3rd stunt team to go on mat on the first day. I was really nervous because this was our very first time competing in this division, something new to us and everyone in Malaysia! We performed a 1min 30sec routine trying various stunts combination. No cheer, no dance. Just pure stunt! We finished 6th out of 18 teams! Hehehe...

The pic is our finale, where Nita flies for the first time in her life! Yay! She did a front walk-over into one-leg stunt.

Well, this category is only for new teams who never competed in dance before. Besides us, the other teams who are in this division was X-Factor Upbeat and Escape Elite! The USA judges really loved our Asmaradana intro routine. And we won this division, which got us the invitation to compete in Florida next year at the Cheerleading Officials America (COA) Championships 2006!

This was the most look forward competition. We could have won, but well little mistakes and perhaps other infractions took it all away from us. We were in 2nd place on the first, losing outo nly 1.5 marks from Supreme Starlight who eventually won! Well, I learn a lot and of course the team too! Whatever it is, we did good to get in third place! Hehehe..perhaps next year we can go better!

Day Six - Nottingham University Sports Arena

This was the venue for clinic. We were late for one hour!!! I got up late, maybe tired after the party last night.

I learn a few new tricks at the clinic. Especially for single bass stunting. Our tosses are higher now. I thank Simon and Kayleigh from the BCA staff for helping us a lot.

Day Five (evening) - Conference Hall

We were all invited for this disco party for all cheerleaders. I thought it was going to be fun, then...hmmmm what a boring party was it! My sister's birhtday party was much fun! Hahahaha. Well I get to know more cheerleaders then. So it was more like chatting get together, instead of showing of the dance skill...the music was boring. We didn't know any, perhaps it was all UK hits. We requested for Beyonce which was the only time we really dance like crazy! Hahaha...

Day Five - Nottingham Arena (FINALE)

Today is the day....
We won trophy for the Dance division. Even a few fans of ours said if we didn't win the dance, they would complain to the judges! Hehehe...thanks!

FYI, after 3 days I found out that there were a few teams who were competing against each other just like Shirtliff and Xavier and Dynamitez....in UK they have the Gold Star, the Ascension Eagles, the Supreme Starlight and the Crystal and Diamonds.

Anyways, after the announcement of the dance awards. We got the team ready for the cheer competition which was in the afternoon. I was already feeling a little bit tired because of waiting the whole day. We did better than the first day although the finale pyramid didn't go up again.... and we came in third! Well I don't know what to say, what happen or why. I thought we were going to win. That was it. But hey, we got third! I'm proud of it! All the way from Malaysia, and we won! Yay...
