Movie Release

Bringing more spunk, more attitude, and more fun than ever before, comes Bring It On : All or Nothing, the all-new hip comedy from the hit BRING IT ON movie franchise. Today’s hottest young stars and musical talent heat up the competition with cutting edge cheer and dance moves in a winner-take-all cross-town rivalry that will have you laughing and cheering along ! Bring It On : All or Nothing stars talented young performers Hayden Panettiere (Ice Princess, Raising Helen, Racing Stripes) and Solange Knowles Smith (Johnson Family Vacation, "The Proud Family") and features gifted newcomers Gus Carr, Marcy Rylan, Cindy Chiu, Giovonnie Samuels, Francia Almendarez, Gary Leroi Gray, Danielle Savre and Jessie Fife. Bring It On : All or Nothing is directed by Steve Rash (American Pie Presents Band Camp, Can’t Buy Me Love). Also making her movie debut in a special appearance as herself is Def Jam Records music sensation Rihanna, whose smash dance hit "Pon de Replay" from her debut album "Music Of The Sun" dominated the charts last summer. Her much anticipated follow up album, "A Girl Like Me" drops on April 25, 2006.
Synopsis
Bring It On : All or Nothing is a sassy and spirited production with new moves, new music and eye-popping dance sequences. Britney Allen (Hayden Panettiere) is living the dream -- the cheerleader’s dream. At the elite seaside campus of Pacific Vista High School, Britney is captain of the cheerleading squad and the envy of everyone at school-including one overly-ambitious teammate. When Britney hears about a forthcoming audition for a top cheer squad to appear in recording star Rihanna’s upcoming television special, she is determined that her Pirates cheer squad will capture the coveted spot. But Britney’s life turns from cheer-topia to cheer-tastrophe when her father’s job takes her family to Crenshaw Heights, a multi-ethnic working-class neighborhood east of Los Angeles. At her new school, Britney is viewed with suspicion by most of the students, especially by Camille (Solange Knowles Smith), the overly confident and acerbic leader of the Crenshaw Heights Warriors cheerleading squad. No one is more surprised than Camille, however, when Britney proves herself and secures a spot on the Warriors’ cheer squad. Britney and her new teammates work feverishly to prepare for the audition with Rihanna, incorporating some edgy new moves into their performance. Now the pressure is on, as the Warriors find themselves locked in a high-stakes cheer-off with Pacific Vista, Britney’s old school ! During the climactic, no-holds-barred fight to the finish, friendships, loyalties and talents are tested-but only one team can come out on top.

It was a really an interesting affair when Titans was announced as the new national champion, leaving behind defending champion Dynamitez and the rest of the pack far behind with a fast paced magnificent routine. But the result also came to some disatisfaction to some. Hot favorites, Shirtliff was on everyone's lips. And even the CBN team Xavier was considered as one of the hot picks too. But in the end, both teams only manage 4th and 5th placing. Blitzers, Calyx and Adele too was no way near there. And it took newcomers Anchorz and Stunners to still some action.

So you fans out there, what you got to say?

Sportsmanship Please

Dear cheerleaders and fans,

Please put aside your nasty comments on the post comment box. It is not our aim to promote an unhealthy competitive cheerleading. Cheering is all about having fun and getting everyone together. Competitions aside, we should be appreciating one another. If you would like to post a remark or suggestion, you can do so but bear in mind you have your limits.
Thank you.

Extreme Malaysia All Stars (formerly known as Team All Stars of Malaysia)
Cheer 2006 will be making its 7th appearance in a week, so what have this made the impact to the lives of our fellow cheerleaders? The Cheer competition is held annually which as we all already by now is organised by The Star Youth2 and Clean & Clear.
As this competition is only paved for cheerleaders at high school level, we might not know or even notice what has happened after this high school competitions. Unless you're a vivid cheerleading fan, we already have TWO all-stars in Malaysia which constantly making great endurance to educate and promote cheerleading to all mankind. We heard there were a few more all-stars team to follow suite but to no avail.

Having something to look forward after your high school cheerleading days is good. If you love cheer very much, then having yourself signed up with these all-stars team is your one step to continue to spur your spirit on!

Cheerleading in Malaysia is moving well! It takes all cheerleaders to unite and make this a reality.

Cheer 2006 - The Battle

So who is who should we look out for this coming competition?
1. SHIRTLIFF vs XAVIER
This is an old rivalry between these two teams, with SBU winning almost all except for in 2002. Expect this time around SBU to win again, but maybe with a fight from the CBNers. Considering last year, the Mighty X was only a few points away.
2. DYNAMITEZ vs SHIRTLIFF
Defending champions, against the four time national champion. This would be the most interesting affair. It can go either way. I can't take sides because I'm supporters for both!
3. BLITZERS vs DYNAMITEZ
Both pretty much have the simmilarity in performance. I would expect DJ squad to go one up further.
4. SBU vs SBS
These two schools, were formerly from the BBGS in Bukit Bintang. Intense rivalry expected since they're both neighbours. This would go to SBU, no doubt. Only a miracle will bring SBS further.
5. SHEWANAZ vs CYRENS
The showdown between the 2 top private school team in Malaysia. Shewanaz has been winning since 2003. But with a newer team and inexperience on thier side, expect Sri KL to topple this time around. Maybe.
6. VULCANZ (boys) vs MANTINZ (boys)
Vulcanz are not competing this year because they're not prepared as most of the seniors has left, and the newbies are not up to par. But we would see how Mantin boys could spark the stadium on that day. They would be the centre of attention, after the new champion. I consider VLC still the stronger boys though.
7. KL vs PJ
KL team are most consistent as compared to those from PJ. Meanwhile, the Ipoh and Penang teams also moving forward. But this year around, expect the Top 15 to be filled up by KL teams majority.

Cheer 2006 - The Nationals only a month away!

Ladies and gentlemen, are you ready for this?
The quest for the 7th national cheerleading championship is on!
Defending champion, Dynamitez has been training hard since late last year. What I heard is the DJ squad is getting better every day. Don't forget 4 times national champion, Shirtliff, who will be back with a great vengeance. The SBU team is finally sending it's strongest team ever, after the school has decided to send only one team, instead of two in previous years.
CBN Xavier and BUD4 Blitzers will be the other dark horses, along side Titans from AMC. Apparently, the AMC team has been trained by the Rangsit University coach for the past 6 months. Interesting!
So what to expect this year?
Well what I will see is that the Top 5 teams will be a very keen fight between the favorites. Any slip ups can cost major points and deduction. Of course, expect a few surprises again just like Blitzers did last year. Stunting wise, difficulty would be much higher. We should be seeing craddle twists and extension libs almost in all routines. And maybe 1-2 amazing stunt transition. I know DJ squad is doing one, and also SBU.
Will be updating on Cheer 2006 now and then! Cheers

CHEER 2006 on the go!

So all you cheerleaders out there! The time has come to the preoceeding of the 7th annual National cheerleading competition!
I guess it is about time for everyone to be excited as much as I do! Been waiting for this since Dynamitez won the trophy last year! Just couldn't wait what Shirtliff and Xavier have in mind to aim at the trophy once again.
Anyway, this year see the many new inclusion to the program and we ought to be thankful to the organisers' Youth 2 and Clean & Clear for making our dreams great! So adding on to Cheer North 2006 (in Penang) is Cheer South 2006 (in JB!). We will get to see the Top 3 teams from both regionals competing at the Nationals on 1st and 2nd July, 2006 at Putra Stadium!
So what to expect this year?
I have checked with my friends from the various team (including coaches, captains and fans), that this year we should expect a close fight between the powerhouses! The obvious one would be eyes on the DJ squad defending the title. Tell you, defending a title is much much difficult then winning to aim one. My best of luck to DJ, as I heard they have attempted some difficulty in the routine. What is it?! Wouldn't be fair if share them here.
Shirtliff is back for good! What I heard the last time is that Shirtliff and Maclay are joining force to send a one formidable line-up. Somewhat I would say the SBU All-Stars line up. Definetly the closest team to spoil DJ's party!
Xavier is parading a new team, but we should not underestimate the mighty X. Same goes to Blitzers and Vulcanz team.
My other lookouts is Titans from Ipoh. I was informed they have engaged a foreign coach to train the team the past months, apparently this coach is a close friend of our team from overseas. Kudos to Titans for taking the extra measure to aim close to the trophy!
I will update once again on the lookouts.
Going on this weekend is a clinic at JB, featuring cheerleaders from the Cheerleading Association and Registrar Malaysia (CHARM) All-Stars members. They will be conduct a closed by invitation only clinic and also a public performance on Sunday.
There you go. Let's get ready to rumble!

Let's Get Ready To Rumble

Finally, the mat has been rolled out and the challenge for the inaugural Cheer Emas competition will begin today! Nothing I can ask for more except for this competition to run smooth despite a few setbacks the past months. One obvious reason being the very unsupportive respond from the cheerleading community in Malaysia. Despite Allstars interest in promoting the sport heavily here, we do not get the guaranteed backup from our fellow friends.
This first edition will only see 5 teams square off the challenge to win the coveted Challenge Trophy and cash prize worth RM3000! We thank our sponsor, South City Plaza for being there to support us and believing that cheerleading is not just a pure entertainment but also a great sporting activity!
This would be Allstars biggest project thus far, and we hope that in the coming future we will get the much needed support from our fellow cheerleaders.
As what I can see, the competitive level in Malaysia is still very lose. In America, there are partically competitions held every other weekend while we have to only wait for the Nationals competition which has become the one and only competition that all our cheerleading teams expect to excel.
Is it the glamour we are chasing for, or the love of the sport?
Anway, I would like to thank the 5 teams who will be participating this weekend. You've made this competition a reality. And this first edition will always be remembered.
Cheer Emas participant list:
1. CHARM All Stars
2. Extreme Malaysia All Stars
3. Shewanaz
4. Crusaders
5. Zealous

Stunting for Cheer 2006

So what to lookout for this year?

Last year saw a few teams attempting higher difficulty in loads which includes the 180 twist and 360 twist. This time around expect the same, but perhaps more sharper and cleaner presentation.

Dismount wise, only three teams of the 20 odd teams attempted craddle twist. The two SBU teams and the only male team. But this year, I would expect more teams (especially the experienced one - including defending champs) doing twist craddle. It's like a compulsory element if you wish to finish in the Top 3. But please remember, a complete and clean rotation is needed in order to score perfect.

Single leg stunt. I was quite unhappy with last years performances. Not many teams has had single leg stunts in their routine. Even DJ and the SBU teams has only 1-2 to show. The only obvious one was by Xavier who had 3 scorpions. It is not necessary to attempt the extended version. If you have 4 elevated scorpions, and performed clean and neat I would rest assure your team will score many points compared to woblly extensions by other team.

Toss. Flyers performing tosses has improved on the snapping skills. DJ, Vulcanz and SBU obviously had mastered the technique. St Mary and AMC too has improved.

Transitions. Bear in mind, performing a stunt and repeating it again could bore the judges. Try to avoid doing elevators here and there. Maybe you could be more creative. Transitions is aimed to see how you can plus and add various stunting skills into one. Eg. DJ did 180 twist up elevator, to extension and craddle. Shirtliff did show kick load to elevator and twist craddle.

Good luck choreographing!

Overseas trip?

Just pouring in some more suggestion in making your cheerleading program much more exciting. Since there are not much cheerleading competition (duh!) for your to compete at, maybe you could try and lookout for competitions abroad. It is not necessary that you have to fly to the US of A and compete with the giants! There are competitions in the region, where your team (high school) level is allowed to compete at.

  • Thailand Cheerleading Competition (January 21st & 22nd), Bangkok, Thailand
  • Cheerobics 2006 (March 2006), Singapore
  • Festival Italia (1st - 7th April 2006), Rimini, Italy
  • 17th International Cheerleading Championships (29th - 31st July), Nottingham, UK

In order to compete at these overseas competition, there are many many things you ought to do. Firstly, you have to make sure that your team is 100% prepared for a high level competition. Second, to get the full pledge support from your parents, school admin, the education ministry. Thirdly, raise funds!

Team All Stars is preparing for the UK competition again. We are competing to hopefully win more honours. If you wish to know more of the competition and know how, you can buzz me.

Good luck with tryouts everyone!

Thursday, January 05, 2006

School season has now reopen. And everything seemed to be going back on track again. As for most of the freaky cheerleaders, all they want to do is to start practices ASAP. Well here is a few pointers from me of what should be carried out before you go on field.
School Admin
The most vital aspect of building a cheerleading program at your school. Is better to meet your principal or teacher advisor and discuss on your cheerleading plans for this new year. This would include having tryouts to select a new team. If you have a coach, it would be much better as your coach would be your best mate. A coach is essential, and to me, I consider him or her part of the team.
Announcement
You might need a few help from your cheerleading team mates on this. Posters, assembly announcements and etc should be put up on notice. Nobody likes to do things last minute, meaning it is inappropriate if you announced the tryouts only a few days earlier. At least give everyone a 2 weeks notice. In your announcement you should specify what are you looking for and perhaps get them prepared by providing cheers to learn etc.
Tryouts
Who will select the team is up to you. But to have a fair judging and a little professional help, you could always invite foreign coaches or individuals who has experienced in cheerleading. You could invite the good people from CHARM and MOCHA to provide the necessary assistance in selecting your new members.
Note: Tryouts is better to be held in 2 days basis instead of a one try only. On the first day, you could use introductions of basic cheerleading skills which would include motions, jumps and basic stunt. Teach a cheer and dance too. Then, have your tryouts maybe 2-3 days after that so those who audition can at least practice what they have learned. This way, you wouldn't be frustrated! Trust me.

Planning
Write down your plans and goals for this year. Discuss them with your coach or advisor, and your team members. Look out for competition dates, clinics or camps. You could enquire with CHARM or MOCHA for any cheerleading related activities. Once you have compiled them, make sure all your members have a copy. It is also advised that your team should have a cheerleading constitution. This would enhance your program. Consult your coach or advisor for further assistance.

Having a cheerleading program that is organised and efficient will definetly provide further excitement within your team! Have fun cheering and see you all soon!
