Shewanaz was born in 2002. The name was given by my sister's class mate then. She taught of Chiwanas. I don't know how did it come out. WEIRD. But everyone seem to love it. But I suggest to change it to SHEWANAZ. Slang word to the interpratation of She Wants It!
Shewanaz made it debut at Cheer 2002. Finishing 18th out of 20 teams! Thanks to the 60 point penalties! If not, they could have finished in Top 10.
Cheer 2003 was the year where we had the best of the best from Sekolah Sri Garden. Stunting difficulty was way higher. The same as those of Shirtliff and Xavier then. But sadly the team did not complete a clean routine. Both extension arabesque did not happen. Some stunt dismount was never perfect. So penalties were everywhere. But thankfully, they finished 9th!
Cheer 2004 was a sad episode. We had members who had left, because the school fees is so so expensive. One semester now is equavalent to my one year fees 5 years ago! Then we had some who had moved to Africa and Australia. We had only 10. So we solicited 1 ex member who is in another school, and another girl from the primary section. The rule did not state the agility of the members, so our little girl Angela was lucky. And she was the toss of the team! Since everyone was really new, the routine was rather simple. Stunting wise there was no difficulty because I wanted to play safe. But I put in more difficulty in the dance segment. Elsewhere, everyone has improved. New teams emerging from everywhere, especially the PJ area. They really stunt me. Despite the really close competition, Shewanaz finished at 11th. Only 1 point seperates them from the Top 10 again! And a mere 21 points from the Top 6! Dame.
Cheer 2005. I have more faith and confidence this year. The juniors are now seniors. More experienced. Basic skills are okay. Only have to work out to extent the teams difficulty. Chances are even at this moment. Knowing the strength of teams like Sri KL, St Mary and Seafield, Shewanaz has what it takes to go further this year. I aim for a Top 6 finish.
My prediction of Top 10 at Cheer 2005.
Every year, these FOUR schools are always featured in the Top 10.
SMK SBU (2 teams), SMK CBN (2 teams, SMK DJ (Dynamitez) and AMC Ipoh (Titans).
Leaving it to SMK St Mary, Sri KL, Sri Garden, Seafield, and perhaps newcommers like Subang Utama and Bandar Utama 4 school teams to fight for the remaining spots. I have no doubt at least 8 spots for this years Top 10 will be filled up by these teams.
Chances for Sri Garden this year to go one up is totally up to the teams spirit, commitment and of course luck on that day.
Cheer 2005 is held two days this year. July 2 and 3.
July 2 - Qualifying rounds
July 3 - Finals!
Cool! I can't wait to cheer out loud!

The 2004 Review
The year 2004 was an eye opener for me.
Firstly, All Stars had a great year. Despite the setbacks of coming 2nd to Assuntta at the Kotex cheerleading competition, the rest of the year was superb!
Although we did not get to compete and fly to UK for the Internationals, the whole team experienced some great cheerleading moments. Shows kept on coming a week after another. We met stars of the stars, and performed again at Genting Times Square for a week for the second time!
Well 2004 was never a bed of rosses for me and my team mates. We departed from CHARM and CHARM All Stars which is then and currently under the care of Beverley Hon. We split due to some differences and a conflict of interests I would say.
Hey, that was the past.
2004 saw the coming up of new teams, and the inclusion of boys in competitive cheerleading. No doubt I am the ultimate and the pioneer male cheerleader in Malaysia, but the true inspiring story and performance by the Vulcanz all Boys was the real fetch! My then real close male cheerleader friend, Chee Wei, led his team to victory and won Best Newcommer. I really admired the team, 12 boys altogether for putting aside critics and to just go forward and cheer. Their tagline: Guys Don't Cheer With Poms. That's fetch!
Best Newcommer Issue
Everyone seem disagree with the judges for their winning. I didn't really understand myself because I did not get to watch the routine because I was part of it! (I was one of the spotter). So I got hold of a copy, a cetak rompak VCD and made my reviews. And I compared it to the other 2 finalists of the Best Newcommer category:
1. Vulcanz all Boys - SMK Seafield (#6)
2. Blitzers - SMK Bandar Utama 4 (#8)
3. Xirco - SMK Subang Utama (#9)
I thought the audience were right. No offence to the boys. They did really bad, synchroisation was never tact and gosh, it was not even a clean routine. To compare it with Blitzers who I guess really deserves the trophy. But nevermind.
That is already passe. Politics are everywhere. So buat ape nak terkejut?
Shirtliff Again?
Then come the issue of who is going to win the Nationals? Shirtliff again?
Hahaha.
I was hoping to watch upsets. That did not happen either. Nevertheless, the fight for the crown weren't as easy as it seem.
My cheer friend, Sandra Tock, who captained Dynamitez at Cheer 2004 came nearly to upset 3 times national champion, Shirtliff. If not to the finale pyramid which was not perfected because of the left hitch stunt fell. Dynamitez came second again for the second time.
Shirtliff performed up to their standards. Achieving high difficulty in their stunting technique. The intro was again superb, brilliant I would say. But haven't I watch that from ESPN or somewhere else before?! Oooops.
Again, Shirtliff came out tops. Maclay (I trained them personally hoping to dethrone Shirtliff) came out disappointing 7.
Elsewhere, CHARM All Stars has not been progressing well yet. Not to brag, but the departure of the senior members was a deep bite to CHARM.
We came up with ideas, and plans, and came the birth of MOCHA:

The THOP trophy
A week of suspense.
A week of sleepless night
All answered on a Sunday afternoon
I was still having the setback from the Musictheque outing last night. Arrived near 1130 because I was informed by Nemrac that the team will be there at 11. As usual, Malaysian time 11 equals to 12.
The full team only came at 1. One girl had tuition then. I only saw the full routine at 115. I was really stunt. My doubts slowly dispersed. I was a happy man again. I think. Dynamitez belum sampai. So it is not over yet.
Routine sama. Tapi difficulty stunt memang tinggi compared to the heats. Ye lah, team display mane yang sanggup melihat ditewaskan oleh budak2 sekolah menengah?! 5 markah memang banyak. Membezakan langit langit dan bumi.
The show basket yang I suggest memang mereka perfectkan. And finale, memang hebat! I was really impress. Xircon came, nothing much. I kesian my Shewanaz girls. Memang routine tukar 100%. Harap2 menjadi. Cougars tak cukup2 nak meniru. Tapi dance lawa. Dynamitez belum sampai lagi.
230 competition mat tutup. Dynamitez sudah buat rehearsal. Stunt masih same. And I was still nervous. The judges looked preofessional. Same goes like last week. But they really disappoint me.
Competition begins with Shewanaz, Xircon then Cougars. All 3 teams were not worrying me. Team All Stars was next. All I wanted was for a clean routine, and of course the corwd to go crazy with the stunts. Did they do it? Yes, we scored! Scored crazily!
Dynamitez next. Gosh they were good too. Routine was clean. I think. Except for the finale lah, ade sedikit technical drop. So now it is up to the 3 judges. One is a gymnastic coach, one a pop jam world champ and another this cute bastard! Boleh trust ker 3 orang ni?
Result:
CHAMPION: Team All Stars (317%)
2nd: Dynamitez (300%)
3rd: Xircon (286%)
4th: Shewanaz (280%)
5ht: Cougars (256%)
